With the cost of everything taking a bite out of your bottom line, bite back!
So, I could fill this post with a string of cliché’s like “get more bang for your buck” or “work smarter not harder”, but those really don’t help you much. We all want those results, but how do you get there? Well, I’m going to talk about how to actually improve operations while maintaining security with the goal of increasing profitability. Who wouldn’t want that?
Pretty much every business understands the necessity of security systems. One part deterrent, one part detection, one part evidence but one of the age-old objections to security systems is they add cost. There is no payback, other than minimizing the cost of theft or damage. What if we could use security to get payback another way? What if they actually improved your bottom line? Do I have your attention yet? Read on.
Security systems have matured a lot in the last few years alone and are starting to offer more value than just addressing risk. The key is to figure out what else they can do to support your operations. Here are some samples of the possibilities.
- The obvious application is time savings. How many activities take staff away from their responsibilities to check the status of something, respond to deliveries, inspect products, or anything other than what makes money? With technology today, systems can provide various ways to reduce those time demands on your staff. Most surveillance cameras have features built into them that can monitor for specific activity and provide notifications or trigger other actions. From reading license plates to barcodes, counting events, or notifying of specific circumstances, cameras can automate many routine tasks.
- Delivery entrances don’t need to be staffed to maintain security or require someone to stop what they are doing to receive deliveries. An intercom at the delivery door can make calls to any phone designated, allow staff to view and talk to the caller and remotely release the door for them, while supervising their activity on camera. Not impressed yet?
- Building energy management used to be thought of as only important for large buildings, but energy costs have a significant impact on any business. Security systems are already providing occupancy detection when they are armed. Why not use that information during operating hours to control lights, HVAC and even equipment? Configuring independent systems to interact is common today providing convenience and cost savings.
- Here’s one more idea for improving operational efficiencies. We can use security systems to monitor and report on traffic patterns to help determine the best assignment of personnel, placement of product or even when is the best time of day for particular activities.
These ideas are just the tip of the iceberg. Sorry, I couldn’t resist one last cliché. Regardless, your business has its own special needs and AllComm can help you find ways to leverage your security investment across all your business operations.
